Volunteer Positions Available
General Thrift Store Volunteer
Your hours volunteering at our thrift stores reach so many in need! No amount of time given is too small. We always have things to be done: sort, tag, shelve products, clean and tidy store, special projects, etc. All of these tasks contribute to providing good quality necessary items to our store customers. Join us now! Store hours are 8:30 am to 4 pm Monday through Saturday; minimum commitment of 4 hours per week. Here’s a great opportunity for teens, adults, groups (up to 10) and families. Teens ages 13 to 16 require supervision. You must have a positive attitude, a cheerful, smiling demeanor and a willingness to dive into any and all duties/tasks needed.
Voice for the Poor for Domestic Violence
Unique and rewarding volunteer opportunity working with victims of domestic violence. Join a group of caring and dedicated volunteers who visit women and children in their homes to provide follow-up support, encouragement and when possible, material assistance, in order to help them lead meaningful lives free of violence.
Fund Development Volunteer - Donor Cultivation
Do you have the Midas Touch? Then we have a need for YOU! Our fund development group is in need of someone with golden fund raising experience, who either already has some solid corporate contacts to start networking with, or someone who’s not shy about contacting corporations to build rapport and help us keep St. Vincent de Paul’s programs running and growing.
Public Relations Volunteer
“In The Know” and have media contacts? Don’t have contacts, but no fear of chasing leads to get the contacts? Give us a call! We are looking for an experienced PR person to assist St. Vincent de Paul get the word out about the good our organization does, create excitement about volunteer opportunities and various programs, and team with our Fund Development group cultivate funds that allow us to assist those in need.
Heavy Lifter Volunteer
You don’t have to be Mr. Universe to volunteer but we sure could use some muscle! If you’re free weekdays or Saturday, we need help with heavy lifting within the store and for customer carry out. Help is needed between the hours of 9 am to 4 pm. We are seeking volunteers who are in good physical condition and are able to lift heavier boxes and furniture items. You must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
Furniture Repair Volunteer
If you’re good with tools and repairs, we need you! Help us take furniture donations that need some TLC or elbow grease, and turn them into shining stars on the merchandise floor! Store hours are Monday – Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm; hours are flexible and vary based on repair need and your schedule. We are seeking someone who is reliable and has an interest in working with furniture and tools. Experience with furniture repair a plus but not necessary.
Small Appliance Repair Volunteer
Like to tinker? Have an electrical talent? We sure could use your help repairing TV’s, toasters, lamps, etc. These items will be for sale in our stores. Store hours are Monday – Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm; hours are flexible and vary based on repair need and your schedule. We are seeking volunteers who are reliable and have good mechanical/electrical type repair skills. Experience with appliance repair a plus.
Phone Outreach Volunteer
Reach out and touch someone! We need folks who like to chat on the phone and call past and potential donors to our thrift stores. This is an as-needed role. You can either work at our main office on Silver Spring Drive or work from the comfort of your own home. This is a great opportunity for volunteers who want to do volunteer work but cannot commit to a set schedule or need to be at home. You must have a pleasant, friendly phone manner, work well independently and have a willingness to smile and dial.
Meal Program Hospitality Ministry
Do you love working with people? Nourish souls as well as bodies! Join our meal ministry family. Provide some hospitality and greet, interact and socialize with partakers of our meal program. We need your smiles and laughter at our table. Meals are served Sunday through Friday from 5 pm to 7 pm; minimum commitment of 2 hours per week. We are seeking volunteers who are outgoing, friendly and open-minded. This is a wonderful opportunity for groups, families, teens (minimum age of 16) and adults.
Children Tutor
Bursting with knowledge you’d like to share? Give us a call. We’ve got young minds thirsting for new challenges and some in need of assistance with current challenges. You will work with children ages 7 through 12 at one of our Family Resource Centers. Hours are weekdays (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm during the school year. Minimum commitment of 2 hours or one session per week. We are seeking volunteers who love children, are patient, are ready with a smile and have an open mind. You must be knowledge in various school subjects. Teaching or mentoring experience a plus but not necessary. Minimum age is 16.
Substitute On-Call Receptionist
Hello? How may I help you? If you like to help others and have excellent phone skills, we want to hear from you! We need someone who is an excellent listener, patient, and calm under pressure, willing to come in on an on-call basis to assist us with incoming phone calls. We experience times when call volumes are high, or staff is ill or on vacation, and we need help to fill that void. Candidate will be trained on computer system for light data entry, as well as mentored on how to handle a crisis intake call. Up to the challenge? CALL US! Position ongoing and/or on-call on weekdays. Hours flexible. Excellent phone skills, reception experience helpful. Patience and kindness a must. Ability to remain professional and calm when handling a crisis phone call. Basic computer data entry experience helpful.
Clothing Drive / Career Wear
Help us meet an ever present need in the community by participating in a Clothing Drive at your place of employment, school or church. We have a particular need for career clothes. We will provide you with the necessary promotional materials to announce the drive; posters, informational sheets, and even the bins required to collect the items.
